The Type 2 Simulator Interface takes the signals from multiple sensors (up to 16) attached to real bells or teaching dumbbells, and transmits them to a PC in the ringing room running a simulator software package such as Abel, Beltower or Virtual Belfry. Schematics, PCB design and manufacturing files, firmware source code and full documentation are all available on GitHub, A second, small PCB facilitates connection to the PC and power supply in the ringing room.
The Simulator Interface connects to the power board with a single, standard RJ45 network cable, and cable lengths of up to 25m have been tested. RJ45 cables are also used to connect the sensors to the Simulator Interface in daisy chains of up to four sensors each. Both the Simulator Interface, the power board and the sensors are designed to fit boxes from the readily available Really Useful range, simplifying construction and installation.
