The Type 2 simulator also supports a generic sensor PCB which may also be used to build infra-red sensor modules, or to integrate other existing sensors into the simulator. Schematics, PCB design and manufacturing files are and full documentation are available on GitHub. As with the magneto-resistive sensors, the generic sensor boards connect to to the Simulator Interface in daisy chains using standard RJ45 network cables, and chains of up to 20m have been tested. Both generic and magneto-resistive sensors can be mixed if necessary, on the same interface and even the same sensor chain.
Infra-red sensors can be built using the generic sensor PCB, using the same commercially available low-cost detector module as in the Type 1 simulator. The sensor is designed to fit into a slight larger Really Useful box.
The construction and configuration of the simulator are comprehensively documented on GitHub.
